Brincr’s transformation to a scalable Azure microservices platform
To support its rapid growth and improve platform reliability, Brincr, a Dutch software company specializing in wholesale management, partnered with CloudNation to modernize its Azure environment. What started as a single, monolithic setup evolved into a fully scalable, secure, and future-ready microservices platform, built for performance and continuous innovation.
About Brincr
Brincr (acquired by the Visma Group in 2021) provides a platform that helps trading and wholesale companies simplify their operations. With its all-in-one platform, businesses can manage orders, stock, and invoicing seamlessly, enabling them to scale efficiently without losing control.
The Challenge
Brincr’s entire application, including the frontend, portal, API, and background jobs, was running as a single container within Azure App Service.
This monolithic setup limited scalability, slowed deployments, and made it difficult to maintain flexibility as the customer base grew.
Performance issues and longer release cycles began to impact user experience and operational efficiency. Brincr needed a modern, scalable foundation that could support its rapid growth, without adding complexity or cost.
The solution
Together with Brincr, CloudNation designed and implemented a microservices-based architecture on Microsoft Azure.
Each application component, frontend, portal, API, and background jobs, was separated into its own Azure Container App, allowing independent scaling and simplified maintenance.
Key elements included:
- Infrastructure as Code with Terraform for consistent and repeatable deployments
- CI/CD automation through GitHub Actions
- Azure Application Gateway with Web Application Firewall (WAF) and SSL offload for secure traffic management
- Azure Redis Cache and Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server for performance and reliability
- Azure Monitor and DataDog for observability and alerting
- Training the development team to handle the architecture
