How we helped BuyBay migrate workloads to AWS
This project was executed in a multi-disciplinary agile team, where business stakeholders, data scientists, DevOps engineers, and cloud engineers were able to share knowledge and experience.
BuyBay combats waste by reselling overstock and returns for e-tailers, retailers, brands, and manufacturers. Through a combination of intelligent warehouse management, advanced grading software, and smart selling, each product is given a second life with a new consumer.
CloudNation is an advanced consulting partner and has the experience and skills to migrate various workloads to AWS. We accomplish this by providing the right consultants, tools, workshops, and technical support to deliver a complete and successful migration. The result will be the acceleration of your cloud adoption journey. This project was executed in a multi-disciplinary agile team, where business stakeholders, data scientists, DevOps engineers, and cloud engineers were able to share knowledge and experience.
At the foundation lies the landing zone, a multi-account architecture tailored to BuyBay’s needs. The application architecture redesign helped across various pillars. Applications and application environments were decoupled to separate EC2 instances to enable more reliable deployments and operational troubleshooting. Both infrastructural components and application code components were fully deployed using CI/CD pipelines (AWS CodePipeline). Other improvements were gained by automated alerting & recovery, cost optimization by automated stop/start events and further improved security by reducing the attack surface of the application infrastructure. Also, the business intelligence environment was decoupled from the main operational applications, allowing for more isolated development of both environments.
BuyBay has chosen AWS as the platform of choice to run several applications in the Cloud. Application components were bundled together on shared infrastructure, making deployments more difficult to troubleshoot. The objective of the migration for BuyBay was to automate more actions, limit the need for manual steps and improve monitoring and alerting to get more control over their infrastructure. A second business objective was to prepare their environment for scaling up the usage and the number of applications.
Not doing so would generate a risk of having unnecessary unscheduled downtime or decrease in functionality.
In the context of BuyBay’s decision to focus on core competencies and use external expertise for other areas, BuyBay decided to look for a Partner who can provide recommendations and deliver the new environment.
